Course description

Supernovae (SNe) represent a final, explosive stage of stellar evolution and play important roles in the lives of galaxies. This seminar will present an overview of the current understanding of thermonuclear and core-collapse SNe, including those associated with gamma-ray bursts. It will focus on the outstanding questions about their stellar progenitor populations and explosion mechanisms, as well as the numerous applications of SNe as tools. Finally, the course will explore connections to other transients, including kilonovae.
