COMM 1313W - Analysis of Argument (3 Cr.) Writing Intensive, Online may be available

Communication Studies (10958) TCLA - College of Liberal Arts

Course description

The course introduces the principles of argumentation and critical inquiry, guiding students to identify flawed reasoning, construct evidence-based claims, and adapt messages to specific audiences. Making strong arguments is key to effective communication of all kinds, from casual conversations with friends about where to find the best pizza to crafting compelling research presentations in your classes and at work, to speaking up for your community, and to pushing for policy or organizational change that matters to you. Through targeted readings, debates, and a concise policy brief, you’ll master Toulmin analysis, source evaluation, and ethical counterargument, while learning how to turn careful analysis into persuasive advocacy. These communication, advocacy, and problem-solving abilities are prized in every major and by employers in any field.
