Course description
Fundamental engineering analysis and evaluation of transport processes involving heat and mass transfer applied to biological process engineering and biological systems. Focus is placed on basic concepts by identifying mechanisms and key factors regulating heat and mass transfer, and based on that, establishing and applying transport kinetic analysis. Applications of such quantitative analyses are directed to address engineering design, prediction, and operational problems in close association with other fundamental engineering sciences including fluid dynamics, equilibrium thermodynamics, reaction engineering, and MEB. Case studies include transport processes found typical in agricultural, environmental, food, bioproducts, bioprocessing, and biomedical
technologies.
