Classical and Near Eastern Religions and Cultures (10956)
TCLA - College of Liberal Arts
Course description
Latin isn’t just a language—it’s the backbone of modern civilization, shaping Romance languages, science, law, and philosophy. Studying Latin strengthens critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while improving comprehension of Spanish, French, Italian, and English. The Latin 1001/1002 sequence builds a strong foundation in grammar and vocabulary, preparing you to read authentic historical texts, explore classical, medieval, and Renaissance literature, and decipher complex English words, especially in academic fields like law and medicine. Mastering this essential language unlocks a rich intellectual tradition and deepens your understanding of language, logic, and culture. Let Latin open the door to the past and sharpen your mind for the future.
Undergraduate students should enroll in LAT 1001, and graduate students should enroll in LAT 4001 for graduate credit. Students who complete the four-semester course sequence through Latin 3004 will satisfy the CLA second-language requirement.
