Course description

RUSS 1101 is the first course in the six-semester Russian language sequence and is designed for beginners who do not yet know the Russian alphabet. Using the textbook Beginner’s Russian by Anna Kudyma et al. with online exercises and additional authentic texts, you will learn to speak, read, write, and understand Russian. By the end of the semester, you will be able to talk about yourself, your studies, your apartment/house, neighborhood, and city, and what you like to do. You will know the present and past tenses of verbs and have a good understanding of the case system for nouns and adjectives, and you will have learned the expressive ways Russian uses free word order to put new information last.
