This course examines gender based violence (GBV) in its multiple forms from a global perspective. GBV can include: sexual assault, sex trafficking, FGM, forced marriage, and other topics. Using a lens of international human rights along with other theories useful in understanding GBV, students will learn about different forms of and approaches for addressing it. Readings and in class work will describe appropriate global government, legal, and policy responses. Students will think critically about the effectiveness of international and local efforts to address gender based violence across the lifespan. Class activities include lecture, discussion, and group work.

Open to all undergraduates, this course serves as a required course in the Family Violence Prevention Minor.
