Course description

University Philharmonic Orchestra: The University Philharmonic Orchestra includes woodwind, brass, percussion, and string musicians from disciplines across the university. This ensemble studies and prepares standard and contemporary orchestral repertoire and performs four concerts each year. Please consult with the Ensemble Library in Ferguson Hall for more details on the rehearsal and performance schedule. Placement in the ensemble is determined through an audition; all university students are eligible to audition but should have moderate to advanced proficiency on a traditional orchestral instrument.

Gold Campus Orchestra and Maroon Campus Orchestra: The Gold and Maroon Campus Orchestras include woodwind, brass, percussion, and string musicians from disciplines across the university. Consisting primarily of non-music majors, these ensembles are intended as a way for students outside the School of Music to continue performing in college. Music majors are also encouraged to perform on a secondary instrument. These ensembles study and prepare standard and contemporary orchestral repertoire and perform two concerts per semester. No audition is required to join the Gold or Maroon Campus Orchestra, though basic proficiency on a traditional orchestral instrument and fluency in reading notated music is a requirement.

In connection with my participation in this School of Music ensemble, I grant the Regents of the University of Minnesota (the “University”) and its agents the following:

1. permission to record photographs or other portraits or likenesses of me on videotape, audiotape, film, photograph or any other medium (the “Recordings”).
2. the unrestricted right to use—including without limitation, reproduce, modify, distribute, publicly exhibit, and incorporate into other works—the Recordings, for any purpose that the University deems appropriate.
3. consent to use my name, voice, and biographical material in connection with such recordings.

Further:
1. I understand that the University is under no obligation to use the recordings.
2. I waive the right to inspect or approve the finished products incorporating the recordings.
3. I waive the right to any compensation associated with the University’s use of the recordings.

I release the University, its successors and assigns, employees, and agents from any liability arising out of or in connection with my participation or attendance at the Event or the University’s use of the recordings, including, but not limited to any claims for defamation, invasion of privacy, right of publicity, infliction of emotional distress, and physical injury.

If a student has safety concerns regarding the media release, consult with the course instructor.
