MICB 4151 - Molecular and Genetic Bases of Microbial Pathogenesis (3 Cr.)
Course description
In this course you will learn, at the molecular level, how pathogenic bacteria and fungi cause disease as well as the genetic and biochemical methods used to study these pathogens. We will discuss the genetic evolution of pathogens, colonization and virulence factors, and mechanisms of drug resistance. Some background in immunology is helpful, since we will discuss how pathogens evade the immune system. If you have not taken immunology, you may need to read and study the relevant textbook chapters to understand these parts of the course.
