Course description

This course is the first in a two-semester sequence of Intermediate Japanese. It is for students who have either passed the Beginning Japanese course (JPN1012) or a placement test. If you wish to take the placement test, please contact the instructor. By the end of this course, students are expected to reach the Intermediate Low or Mid level of the guidelines set by ACTFL. We will continue to work on the four main language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing), covering grammar topics such as potential form, volitional form, and special verbs for giving and receiving favors. By the end of this semester, students should have smoother conversation skills both in casual and formal speech, as well as intermediate literacy in Japanese, including learning about 80 additional kanji (about 220 including all prerequisite classes’ kanji).
