Course description

This course is the second half of a two-semester sequence of Third-Year Japanese. The course aims to develop the four communication skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing, at an intermediate-high level, as well as strategies for carrying on a conversation. Based on the guidelines that American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ALCFL) has made, you will aim to reach the level of Advanced Low by the end of this course. You are expected to spend two to three hours per day outside the classroom at least preparing for class every day. In the University language programs, a grade of C- or better (or S) is required to continue to the next level, JPN 4041, the first half of a two-semester sequence of Advanced Japanese. Otherwise, students are required to pass a placement test.
