GLOS 3896 - Global Studies Internship (3 Cr.) Internship/Co-op, Service-Learning
Course description
Students will learn how human rights organizations are organized and
carry out their work, basic practices of human rights advocacy, and some of the skills required to be effective in the field. The course offers students practical, hands-on experience in human rights advocacy, including an internship with an organization engaged in promoting and protecting international human rights. Students will complete at least 90 hours interning with a local NGO (approximately 8 hours a week) and reflect weekly on what they are learning inside and outside of the classroom. Instructional time per course credit for GLOS 3896 complies with the University’s Policy on Academic Credit for Undergraduate Courses Associated with Internship and Co-Op Experiences. This course fulfills the global studies experiential learning requirement and may only be taken once.
SITE AGREEMENT:
In signing up for this class, students agree to be involved in an internship that will be at least 90 hours over the course of this semester. Students must complete an internship site agreement form through Handshake verifying this commitment. If completing 90 internship hours will pose a problem for anyone, please inform the instructor, as the internship component is a requirement to successfully complete the course.
