Course description

Learners in this course examine the ways that everyday people have and are working for social change and building movements. Course content includes concepts, theories, and practices of social change organizing. Learners will engage with important questions related to how, why, when and where to take action towards justice in an unjust world. Together with an instructor who has experience in social justice work and movement building, students will examine questions about the meanings of citizenship and democracy as it relates to structural violence, systems of privilege and power, neoliberalism and anti-environmentalism. There will be an emphasis on active and critical pedagogies, and students and instructor will co create a classroom where all work to support each other with turning new learning and passion into action (praxis).
