Course description
This beginner-friendly course introduces students to the fundamentals of running through a combination of physical training and academic learning. Emphasizing safe and effective practices, students will develop endurance, refine their technique, and gain a deeper understanding of running as a lifelong activity.
Course components include:
- Regular running workouts on campus and in the local community
- Instruction in proper form, pacing, warm-ups, cool-downs, and injury prevention
- Exploration of training methods such as intervals, tempo runs, and long-distance running
- Study of key topics like biomechanics, training principles, and gear selection
Students will progressively build confidence and stamina, culminating in the creation of a personalized running plan. Academic expectations include active participation, reflective assessments, and demonstrations of knowledge through both practical and written work.
No prior running experience is required.
Students are required to provide their own running shoes and appropriate workout attire, which will be reviewed at the start of the course.
Note: This course involves moderate to high physical activity. Students should be aware of their health status and consult a physician if they have concerns. Please inform the instructor of any pre-existing health conditions before the first day of class.
