IDSC 3104 - Enterprise Systems (2 Cr.)
Course description
Enterprise Systems, or ERPs, are the fundamental backbone for today’s leading organizations and are critical for future business leaders to understand. This course provides a practical, non-technical mastery of how these systems function, enable core business processes, and influence organizational strategy and performance. The curriculum begins with an essential overview of major ERP platforms, the role of implementation partners, and the impact of cloud computing, establishing the domain's precise professional vocabulary. A significant focus is placed on the strategic and human dimensions of large-scale ERP deployments. Students will analyze real-world business cases to investigate success factors, including critical topics such as effective change management, user adoption strategies, and project governance.
The program then progresses to a granular examination of end-to-end business processes, such as "Order-to-Cash" and "Procure-to-Pay." Students gain practical, hands-on experience utilizing SAP, a leading ERP, to analyze how integrated information systems facilitate the seamless flow of data, ensuring accuracy and consistency across organizational boundaries. The course culminates in an exploration of leveraging the massive data within the ERP ecosystem for strategic insights. This includes an immersive, gamified experience with SAP’s analytics tools. Woven into this discussion is the future integration of technology within the ERP ecosystem, specifically by having students research and present on agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI) use cases.
