PHCL 4343 - Pharmacology of the Synapse (3 Cr.) Online may be available
Course description
This hybrid course, combining online lectures and in-person active learning sessions, explores the synapse as a key pharmacological gateway to the nervous system. Students will study the physiology of synaptic signaling, focusing on the genes, molecules, and pathways that regulate neurotransmission. The course connects alterations in synaptic function to health conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, depression, anxiety, pain, and addiction. Additionally, students will examine how various drugs modify signals at the synapse and the broader physiological effects at the whole organism level, with a focus on understanding their implications for medicine, therapeutic interventions, and health.
