This advanced course explores the intersection of multicultural counseling, sociocultural attunement, and social justice advocacy in mental health practice. Students will deepen their understanding of diverse cultural identities, power dynamics, and systemic barriers that impact the counseling relationship and client well-being. Emphasis will be placed on integrating multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills with concrete advocacy actions to effect change at individual, institutional, and societal levels. Students will develop and implement a community-based initiative through a service project that addresses disparities in access, treatment, and support for diverse populations while exploring critical issues in mental health care and advocacy. This course is an elective for the IBH program.
