AHS3101

This course is designed for pre-med, pre-PA, pre-nursing, pre-PT, and any other pre-health profession students. AHS 3101 introduces students to the knowledge and skills for interprofessional collaboration between health professionals, staff, patients, and families. Many students pursue a health career, driven to positively impact people’s lives by improving their health and well-being. However, these goals cannot be met by one health profession alone; high-quality, holistic healthcare can only be achieved when a variety of perspectives and expertise are combined. This reality requires health professionals from different disciplines to work together as a team. Through case studies, role-playing, and team-based exercises, students will begin developing the skills they will need to be an effective member of an interprofessional team and address the complex issues that arise in healthcare settings. Students will learn about the roles and responsibilities of various healthcare professionals, ethical challenges, communication strategies, teamwork, and shared decision-making skills. The course also emphasizes the importance of cultural competence, leadership, and conflict resolution.
AHS 3101 serves as a prerequisite for the MHealth Observership Program, an opportunity for undergraduates to participate in interprofessional team rounds with patients at an MHealth Fairview hospital.
