IBUS 4125 - Global Banking: A Survey of Regulatory and Competitive Developments Post Financial Crisis (4 Cr.)

Course description

This course provides students with an understanding of the functions of large, global banking organizations. We will start with a review of the impact of the financial crisis on the regulatory landscape, and identify some of the key differences between US, European, and global regulatory frameworks; discuss the different business models adopted by banks in Europe compared to the United States. We will look at how those different business models are reflected in financial statements, and learn how to interpret bank financial statements through ratio analysis. Finally, we will discuss the impact of digital disruption, and how it is forcing banks to consider new strategic directions.
