This course provides a broad understanding of economic and political forces at work in communities, organizations, government, and broader societies as well as practical applications of change strategies. A required course for the Master of Professional Studies in Civic Engagement, it is also open to other students interested in how change happens through civic processes across local government, institutions, and within the nonprofit and advocacy sectors. The course surveys economic and political systems, how policy is made, and ways resources are allocated that maintain the status quo or make change. Students choose real-world challenges and put their critical and strategic thinking skills to work to design change strategies. They may choose challenges in their communities and/or workplaces or in a larger social or political arena. Students develop skills as strategists and leaders of change.

Every Spring
