Spirituality & Healing, Center for (11363) TNUR - School of Nursing

Course description

This course explores how reading stories and poetry can influence your mood and wellbeing. You will try mindful reading practices with stories or poems of your choice, revisit books from your childhood or past, and share your reading experiences with classmates. In this course you’ll learn what happens cognitively when you are reading and how you can use reading for your own wellbeing. Lectures and discussions will explore how literature can develop empathy, help understand and regulate emotions, manage stress, and create a sense of community within a larger context of poetry therapy, bibliotherapy, narrative therapy, and the use of narrative in healthcare.

This course will feature 2-3 guest speakers, which may include practitioners involved in narrative therapy, poetry and bibliotherapy, and prison arts programming.
