Program description

Classical and Near Eastern Religions and Cultures is an interdisciplinary minor that enables students to gain a broad and in-depth appreciation for the complexities of the ancient Mediterranean world. Through ancient texts and archaeological artifacts, students learn about major historical leaders, foundational mythologies and literature, as well as the everyday social reality of Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and other Mediterranean and Near Eastern populations. Students also learn how to analyze the central role of ancient Mediterranean religions (Greek and Roman religion, ancient Israelite and Jewish religion, ancient Christianity and Islam) in these various cultural contexts. Our major’s rigorous training in language, history, and culture offers students exceptional preparation for careers across law, medicine, communications, and a vast array of other fields.
