Program description
This 15-credit minor offers students to explore the emerging and interdisciplinary field of esports management. The emergence of competitive video gaming has disrupted the sport industry by creating unique resources and technological demands that require specialized skills that synthesize traditional sport management competencies with emerging digital technologies. Also, esports has altered how sport is delivered and viewed. This minor will allow students to learn the fundamental competencies of successful sport managers while exploring the rapidly changing esports context. Through project-based learning, the student will connect with leading esports organizations so they can leverage their skills and knowledge to help identify and solve problems facing the industry. Students will examine the challenges of offering esports competitions that leverage traditional event spaces and broadcasting relationships while providing decentralized, digital broadcast mediums connected to gamers as influencers. Upon completion of this minor, students will be well-prepared for a career in esports management.
