Course description
How do literary authors create characters so real they feel like your best friends (or worst enemies) and plots so involving they make you laugh out loud (or cry)? In this class, you will learn their tools and techniques while reading literature from diverse genres, cultures, and historical periods. You will also explore how different critical lenses provide helpful perspective on literary works. Through discussion and writing, you will improve your communication skills and grow confident in sharing your interpretations of fiction, drama, and poetry.
Why read and study literature? Because deeply listening to and discussing the perspectives of peoples across space and time prepares you to be an active citizen. Because analyzing literature develops the critical thinking essential for college study and for meaningful employment afterward. Because a bit of wisdom conveyed through an artful sentence could change your life.
Credit will not be granted if credit has been received for: ENGL 1001V
