German, Nordic, Slavic & Dutch (10967) TCLA - College of Liberal Arts

Course description

This course is the fourth semester of Russian language instruction, developing functional proficiency in reading, speaking, listening, and writing in harmony and laying the basis for ultimate mastery of the language. The purpose of the course is to help students progress to an intermediate level of proficiency and to enhance students’ cultural knowledge. We will partially use Russian From Novice High to Intermediate by Anna Kudyma as the main textbook, but the exploration of the textbook topics will be enhanced by a rich cultural component, which will include reading, retelling, and recitation of some authentic Russian literary and folk tales, poems and short stories, as well as the acquaintance with various genres of Russian music. Students will engage in progressively complex discourse, which involves understanding and using complex syntactic structures and navigating various written and oral genres, including individual and group presentations and creative projects.
