Course description
This course offers students a comprehensive introduction to the sport of soccer, emphasizing the development of fundamental skills, tactical understanding, and physical conditioning. Through a blend of theoretical instruction and practical application, students will build proficiency in key techniques such as dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, and heading. Emphasis is placed on improving ball control, accuracy, and speed through structured drills and guided practice.
Students will also explore tactical elements of the game, including positioning, movement off the ball, and team formations. In addition to individual skill development, the course highlights the importance of teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. Small-sided games and full-field matches provide opportunities to apply skills in realistic game scenarios and deepen understanding of strategy and gameplay.
Physical conditioning is integrated throughout the course to enhance endurance, agility, and overall fitness specific to soccer. Students will also learn about injury prevention, warm-up and cool-down routines, and basic sports nutrition. Classroom sessions will include analysis of professional matches and discussions on the historical and cultural significance of soccer worldwide.
By the end of the course, students will have developed a solid foundation in soccer skills, tactics, and fitness. They will be prepared to participate in recreational or competitive play at various levels.
As part of the broader Physical Education curriculum, this course supports the development of physical skills, personal growth, and community building. Students will engage in activities that promote self-discipline, collaboration, and a lifelong commitment to physical activity.
Approximately 25% of class time is dedicated to lecture-based learning, while 75% involves hands-on physical skill development and practice. The course is open to all students and requires no prior experience.
PE classes involve a moderate to high level of energy expenditure and are considered moderately to highly intense. It is recommended that students be aware of their health status and any limitations that may affect their ability to participate safely in the physical activities involved in the course.
