Course description
This is an intermediate course in the art and craft of reading and writing poetry. Students will read and analyze contemporary and classic works of poetry while also constructing and revising their own poetry. Assigned works will include Black, Brown, Indigenous, female-identified and queer writers along with other writers reflecting a diversity of voices and perspectives throughout literary history. Students will be responsible for crafting original poetry, commenting on student work, workshop participation, attendance at a literary reading, short presentations and/or papers, and a final portfolio of poetry.
