CI 5622 - Second Language Acquisition for Teachers (2 Cr.)
Course description
This course grounds students in current research and theory in the area of second language acquisition (SLA). Students will gain an understanding of theories of SLA; the similarities and differences across first and second language acquisition; and the role of individual differences in language learning (including age, first language, and aptitude, among others). Students will also become familiar with the implications of sociolinguistic differences for English and other languages across time and space in the United States for SLA. The course is intended for students who have already taken a course that involves the analysis of phonological, morphological, syntactic or pragmatic aspects of the language they will be instructing as the course will build on and further develop that knowledge. This is a required course for students enrolled in the MNGOT post-baccalaureate licensure program.
