PE 1076 - Flag Football (1 Cr.)
Course description
This course introduces students to the fast-paced and strategic sport of flag football, a non-contact variation of American football that emphasizes agility, teamwork, and tactical thinking. Designed for students of all skill levels, the course combines classroom instruction with active participation to establish a solid foundation in the game’s rules, techniques, and strategies.
Students will develop core skills, including passing, catching, route running, and defensive positioning, with a focus on proper technique, safety, and sportsmanship. The course also explores offensive and defensive strategies, playbook development, game management, and effective communication to foster leadership and collaboration on the field.
Through regular drills, skill-building exercises, and officiated games, students will apply their knowledge in game-like scenarios that promote fair play and mutual respect. Opportunities to lead and officiate games will further enhance students’ understanding of the sport and build confidence in leadership roles.
By the end of the course, students will have gained a solid understanding of flag football, improved their physical fitness, and developed valuable life skills, including communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. No prior experience is required.
As part of the broader Physical Education curriculum, this course supports the development of physical skills, personal growth, and community building. Students will engage in activities that promote self-discipline, sportsmanship, and a lifelong commitment to physical activity.
Approximately 25% of class time is dedicated to lecture-based learning, while 75% involves hands-on physical skill development and practice. The course is open to all students and designed for novices eager to learn, move, and grow.
PE classes involve a moderate to high level of energy expenditure and are considered moderately to highly intense. It is recommended that students be aware of their health status and any limitations that may affect their ability to participate safely in the physical activities involved in the course. If you have any questions about your health status, consult a physician for advice. You should also let the instructor know of any pre-existing health conditions before the first day of class and before participating in physical activities.
