Course description
In this course, teacher candidates will develop language-centered, culturally-relevant unit and lesson plans using a backwards design
model. We will focus on the "what?" and "why?" of lesson planning, whereas CI 5612 will place more emphasis on the "how?" National
and state frameworks (ACTFL, WIDA) as well as the MN content standards will be explored and applied, along with knowledge of
students’ assets and proficiency levels. Teacher candidates will develop performance-based assessments and related success criteria, as well as differentiated daily plans. A range of models and templates for lesson design will be presented.
