GLOS 1918 - Your Place in a Changing Climate: Minnesota and Beyond (3 Cr.) Environment, Freshman Seminar

Course description

This seminar focuses on how the impacts and responses to a changing climate are felt locally in our campus and community while nevertheless being connected to global networks of technology, information, and human migration. Through a range of sources, including fiction, film, policy documents, and environmental planning studies, the seminar will study how the impacts of ecological crisis are represented while highlighting how advocacy takes shape locally, nationally, and globally. The seminar will include several short field trips and visits from local leaders as students study the challenges and opportunities that result from adaptation in energy production, transit design, food cultivation and distribution, and the way the future is imagined and linked to habits and dependencies that made modernity possible.
