HIST 1935 - Religion, Technology, Media (3 Cr.) Freshman Seminar
Course description
Is AI a religion? How can we discern “truth” in the face of technological innovations and social media? What does it mean to be human in an age of “artificial intelligence”? “Religion, Technology, and the Media” will examine these questions from a historical perspective, examining the changing relationship between religions, technologies, and media over centuries, with a focus on the last 100 years. Throughout the class, we will explore the role of corporations and religious institutions in creating and governing media companies; the relationship between technology and “religion”; and the meaning of humanity in the contemporary world.
