EMMD 7513 - HCMC Bedside Ultrasound Elective Clerkship (4 Cr.)
Course description
This 4-week elective will allow EM-bound students to explore bedside ultrasound through clinical shifts in the emergency department. Students will join ultrasound fellowship-trained attendings for at least 12 clinical shifts, performing ultrasounds on patients in the ED at Hennepin County Medical Center.
This is a hands-on course that requires much more than just knowledge obtained from lectures or videos. While actual ultrasound images can be relatively easy to interpret, obtaining them takes skill, which takes practice. Physicians may ultimately obtain similar images, but their approach and technique will vary. These skills are best obtained by working clinically with EM faculty physicians who have had fellowship training in emergency point-of-care ultrasound.
