Select one of the following areas in which to satisfy the primary area requirement, which requires 18 credits; the secondary area of interest, which requires 9 credits; and a third area to meet the 3 credit Global Perspectives requirement. The required course credits in each of these areas may comprise the courses listed under that heading as well as some courses in other subject areas where the content overlaps. For example, American Art courses might qualify as Early Modern or Film/Photography courses might count as Contemporary. In addition, students may use 5xxx-level topics courses that may be offered on occasion by a faculty member or visiting scholar, and directed readings/research courses. All courses must be selected in consultation with the advisor and approved by the director of graduate studies.
