The Astrophysics Undergraduate Program uses three University suggested Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs).
Problem Solving:
The courses used for the evaluation are AST 2001 "Fundamental Astrophysics", and AST 4002, "Astrophysics II". Specific questions on homeworks for these two courses are selected as testing the problem solving skills of students.
Mastery of Knowledge:
The same two courses, AST 2001 "Fundamental Astrophysics", and AST 4002, "Astrophysics II" are used for this evaluation. Several homework problems address the mastery of knowledge, and are combined to assess how well this SLO is achieved.
Communication:
In AST 4002, Astrophysics II, all students are required to do a final oral presentation in class on a topic of their choosing. Students are evaluated on three criteria: (a) Organization of the material presented, (b) Style, and (c) Relevance and depth of material covered.
