It is necessary that the engineering and science elective (ESE) courses chosen by students to complete their sub-plan be technically coherent, primarily in engineering, and at an advanced level. In terms of specific requirements:

1. A specific sub-plan (which includes the option of developing a custom sub-plan) must be declared during the first semester after admission to the program.

2. Within your declared sub-plan a minimum of 6 credits must come from courses listed in Advanced Biomedical Engineering Coursework and a minimum of 6 credits must come from courses listed in Core Sub-plan Courses.

3. A total of 20 credits must come from courses listed in Advanced Biomedical Engineering Coursework + Core Sub-plan Courses + Additional Sub-plan Courses.

4. A maximum of 4 credits of 1000 or 2000 level courses may be counted toward the 27 credit total.

5. A minimum of 19 credits is required at the 4000 level or higher.

6. A maximum of 6 credits of Directed Research, Directed Study, PIES, and/or Industrial Assignment (co-op) may be counted toward the 27 credit total.

7. To remain in compliance with ABET requirements, students must complete a minimum of 14 credits in engineering coursework. If the required 14 credits are not achieved through the Advanced BME, Core Sub-plan, Additional Sub-plan, and Approved Elective course requirements, select additional courses from the following to fulfill the remaining 14 credit requirement.

· BMEN4011 - CAD/CAE of Bioelectrical Devices (1cr.)

· BMEN4013 - CAD of Biomechanical/transport Devices (1cr.)

· BMEN4151 - Physician Inspired Engineering Solutions (PIES) (1-3cr.)

· BMEN4793 - Directed Study (1-4cr.)

· CSE4896 - Cooperative Industrial Assignment I (2cr.) Internship/Co-op, Online may be available

· CSE4996 - Cooperative Industrial Assignment II (2cr.) Internship/Co-op, Online may be available

Students should review the course descriptions and select an appropriate set of courses consistent with degree requirements. Should you find a course not listed in a sub-plan you feel would be beneficial to your elective course plan, you may present it to the Sub-Plan Advisor (SPA) and request their approval to use said course to fulfill elective requirements for your sub-plan.
