A graduate of our PhD program should be able to do the following: (1) Construct innovative and informed literary interpretations (2) Master secondary scholarship in their subfield of expertise (3) Effectively convey these interpretations orally and in writing to diverse audiences within the academy - researchers and students within specific English subfields as well as in other subfields and disciplines (4) Effectively teach varieties of Literatures in English to diverse undergraduate populations (5) Prepare effectively for academic and adjacent academic job searches, and how to explore extra-academic career options for which their PhD degree could be relevant.
