Program learning outcomes

Our graduate program is designed to deliver a rigorous interdisciplinary education, cultivating proficient scholars in the fields of feminist studies and gender, women, and sexuality studies. PhD majors and minors in Feminist Studies engage in both general and specialized coursework, conducting scholarly research and analysis to enact meaningful change. Our graduate students, who embody the roles of scholars, teachers, and activists, demonstrate exceptional intelligence and a dedicated commitment to scrutinizing the dynamics of power within and across societies, economies, and cultures. In addition to feminist studies, our program places significant emphasis on the contributions of queer and trans studies, specifically addressing gender, sexuality, and biological bodies. The curriculum offers a diverse range of courses with a focus on critical areas such as: - Critical race and transnational feminisms - Social movements - Critical gender and sexualities, trans, and queer studies - Feminist ethnography and geography - Feminist health, medicine, and science studies - Intersections of race, ethnicity, and nationalism By blending interdisciplinary breadth with specialized concentrations, we equip graduate students to effectively address contemporary global challenges. Faculty members in Feminist Studies are well-positioned to assist students in developing dynamic programs of study. Our core faculty and affiliates actively contribute to internationally acclaimed research initiatives, spanning areas such as race and social justice, global health, law and society, popular media, music and the arts, politics and social movements, race and migration, development and political economy, food justice, and human rights.
