Program learning outcomes

The goal of the minor is to train students in the scientific study of the human mental capacity for language. Successful study in this area investigates the syntactic, phonological, and semantic/pragmatic properties of the language systems that humans naturally acquire, and asks what kind of underlying mental capacity is implicated by these properties. The graduate minor prepares students in related fields whose research interests involve a component of systematic study of language. The minor pairs well with a variety of fields of study, including anthropology, cognitive science, computer science, literacy education, philosophy, psychology, second language education, and others.
