Program learning outcomes

Students are prepared for licensure in the State of Minnesota (Minnesota k-12 instrumental and Classroom Music License or Vocal and Classroom Music License) by completing the following requirements:

  • 2–6 credits of prerequisite courses: Introduction to Music Education and Secondary Voice or Piano

  • 32–36 credits of music education courses, including teaching methods, instrumental methods or vocal pedagogy, conducting, and student teaching

  • 10 credits of professional education courses from the School of Education

  • Completion of the Minnesota Teacher Licensure Examinations, including Minnesota NES Essential Academic Skills, Pedagogy: Elementary (K-6) or Secondary (5-12), and Instrumental Classroom Music (K-12) or Vocal Classroom Music (K-12)
