Completion requirements

Students must complete all of the course requirements listed below and University Writing with a C- or higher before beginning the Nursing program located in Rochester. Rochester Early Assurance students must earn a 3.0 Cumulative GPA in order to enter the Nursing program.

Students with prerequisite/foundational coursework at U of M Rochester must meet U of M Twin Cities score requirements to earn AP credit for associated Nursing requirements. U of M Twin Cities minimum score requirements may differ from UMR's, refer to U of M Twin Cities Office of Admissions website for course award information.

The nursing major is available in two locations, the Twin Cities and Rochester. Students located in Rochester earn a University of Minnesota - Twin Cities (UMNTC) degree while taking courses on the University of Minnesota - Rochester (UMR) campus. Please note that foundational coursework and sequencing differs slightly for students at the Rochester location due to course availability at UMR. Policies, program requirements, course content, and timeline are the same at both the Twin Cities and Rochester locations. Contact the School of Nursing for more information.

The Rochester subplan of the Nursing BS requires a minimum of 92 credits. At least 30 of upper-division (3xxx-level or higher) credits that satisfy major requirements must be taken through the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. Credits for upper division foundational courses completed through the University of Minnesota Rochester will be included.

Completion requirement

Students must complete all first year foundational course requirements and University Writing before progressing to Year 2 (freshman admits) or beginning the Nursing program (transfer students). Twin Cities First Year students must maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA and complete all first year foundational courses with a grade of C- or higher in order to progress to Year 2.

Students are required to take one upper-division writing intensive course within the major. If that requirement has not been satisfied within the core major requirements, students must choose one course from the following list. Some of these courses may also fulfill other major requirements.
