Program description
The Psychology MA is an additional or alternative credential for students in the Psychology PhD program. It is not available as a stand-alone degree and we do not accept applications to this program.
The MA is designed to provide the flexibility to align with the curricular requirements of all seven tracks of the Psychology PhD: Clinical Science and Psychopathology Research (CSPR); Cognitive and Brain Sciences (CAB); Counseling Psychology; Industrial-Organizational Psychology (I-O); Personality, Individual Differences, and Behavior Genetics (PIB); Quantitative/Psychometric Methods (QPM); and Social Psychology. Students are expected to demonstrate competencies commensurate to the master's level. These include academic and research competencies appropriate to their area of doctoral training.
Master's plan selection (Plan A versus Plan B) is determined in consultation with the director of graduate studies, associate director of graduate studies, and the advisor(s) for completion of the MA as a terminal degree. Students completing the master's as an additional credential while active in the Psychology PhD program should consult their area handbook for guidance on which plan types are allowed/required.
