College of Education & Human Development (TCED)314 - Master of Social Work

Program description

The MSW prepares students for advanced social work practice. A 54-credit program and a 33-credit advanced standing program are available. The curriculum offers specializations in Advanced Practice with Individuals, Families, and Groups and Advanced Macro Practice with Communities and Systems.

Earning a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities is one step in the licensure process to practice as a social worker in Minnesota. Requirements for licensure vary by state; however, completing an MSW from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) is a common component across jurisdictions.
