Program learning outcomes
The PhD Program in Social Work prepares students to provide intellectual leadership for the social work profession through advanced levels of research, theory development, and policy and historical analysis. Student learning outcomes are measured in individual courses, both within and outside of the School of Social Work. During the program, students engage in coursework and program milestones (e.g., preliminary examinations, dissertation) that support their proficiency in: 1. Developing depth and breadth of knowledge in research methodologies, history, theory, policy, and statistics; 2. Developing specialized knowledge and demonstrating ethical conduct in an area of social work research through designing and carrying out independent research projects; 3. Developing scientific oral, written, and presentation communication skills; and 4. Collaborating with faculty and peers on a variety of scholarship and research dissemination activities.
