Program description
Students in the Graphic Design (GDes) Minor will learn how to create compelling visual communications through the combination of text and image in a variety of analog and digital courses. GDes minor students will learn about design theory and develop fundamental design skills in three required courses, which include instruction in the design elements and principles, the Adobe CC (Illustrator InDesign, Photoshop), typesetting, and image making. Students may then explore elective courses in color theory, data visualization, illustration, screen printing, and web design. The GDes minor’s required and elective courses provide a foundation for students who are interested in exploring career paths that require visual communication skills in two distinct ways: 1) The minor can serve as a pathway to the Graphic Design major for students who are at the beginning of their academic career, or 2) The minor can enhance the skill set of students who are fully engaged in other academic programs in the College of Design or academic programs across the University of Minnesota.
