Program description
Nationally, there is a dearth of for-credit, graduate-level coursework and aligned credentials to meet the needs of a growing population of students already working in or seeking to enter the field of sexual health education. Using the existing course HSEX 6013 Perspectives and Practices in Sexual Health Education (3 credits) as a foundation, this certificate builds upon that groundwork with, HSEX 6017 Design, Implementation, and Evaluation of Sexuality Education (3 credits). Students will complement this disciplinary depth by adding either 6 credits of HSEX electives of their choice to focus on sexual health within diverse sub-populations in a coursework focus or taking only 3 credits of HSEX electives and 3 credits of an extended term experiential learning practicum, HSEX 6905 Sexual Health Education Practicum and Supervision course (3 credits) which will be taught by an AASECT-approved Sexuality Educator Supervisor and faculty member. Because of the intensive nature of the Practicum course, students will be expected to apply and receive permission to enroll in the Practicum course.
