MHRIR Program Competencies Strategic Partner • Functional HR: knowledge of recruiting, selection, training, compensation, benefits, labor and employee relations • Business principles: knowledge of managerial economics, organizational theory, strategic planning, resource allocation, marketing, and other functional areas • Law and policy: knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, regulations and how to craft effective policy • Analytics: knowledge of underlying principles and software for HR metrics and being able to communicate these results to others in the business. Competent Professional • Self-regulation: understanding self, comfort with ambiguity and stress, skill in solving problems when under stress • Self-presentation: ability to read situations, self-awareness, social appropriateness • Proactivity: taking initiative, asking questions, seeking information, starting projects • Critical thinking: ability to evaluate information quality and relevance Organizational Leader • Leading: skill in engaging, motivating, and developing others • Cross-cultural agility: understanding other perspectives, developing motivation and skill to effectively work in diverse settings • Networking and communication: developing connections with the HR and business community, learning to understand how to use connections to acquire and deploy resources; field-specific style and conventions, skill in persuasion • Project management: skill in coordination of diverse activities with others
