Composition: Appropriate composition portfolio, including 3-5 works in a variety of media, clearly documented with some combination of scores, recordings, and other forms, including, but not limited to, written explanations of the composition process. Some works must either be for large forces, of extended duration, or both, and must demonstrate accomplishment as a composer (that is, more than the "potential" required for the MA), suitable for doctoral work.
Global Creative Studies: none
Music Education: One research or professional papers to demonstrate scholarly writing; documentation of at least 3 years of teaching experience or at least 3,500 hours of clinical experience; and an interview.
Music Theory: Two original papers (one tonal and one post-tonal analysis)
Musicology/Ethnomusicology: Applicants to the Ph.D. program in Musicology or Ethnomusicology must submit an original paper or papers.
